What a great morning and turnout of over 60 incredible kids at the Santa Monica YMCA. I spoke about my plastic pollution sailing expedition from Bermuda to Iceland. I showed pictures and showed the kids samples of the #microplastics found in the water and plastic pieces that fish had taken bites out of. Thank you 5 Gyres for the wonderful educational box of goodies/plastic. It was a hit! The kids then played a great surf app called SurfGod in partnership with Heal The Bay. Lake Balboa is an 80 million gallon per day water reclamation plant cum valley oasis.

Finally, bike sculptures, free hot dogs, and a sight that I thought was the best thing about events like this: people sitting in the median, watching a band playing near the sidewalk, all while happy people passed by. Something that just isn't possible until you open the road to people on occasion, not only to just cars. Great event, Long Beach, very much looking forward to the next one, hopefully after my legs recover from the 70 miles today.
